Move over popcorn, there’s a new puffed bite in town

To talk of popcorn’s demise may seem deeply misguided Yes it no longer enjoys the heady, double-digit growth of past years and yes there are now other more innovative, better-for-you nibbles out there proactively jockeying to dethrone the once, all-conquering puffed bite, but for many, popcorn stubbornly remains the unavoidable face of low-calorie nibbling.

And yet, just maybe, it’s time for the middle-of-the-road corn kernel to look over its shoulder at a true supersede that’s finally making its move. Lotus seeds certainly aren’t an overnight gimmick looking to muscle in on popcorn’s party.

Lotus seeds have spent a fair few centuries making a name for themselves in Asian cuisine and Chinese medicine. They are a thinking man’s seed, a bonafide ‘superfood’ packed with beneficial nutrients: Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium and an assortment of other beneficial antioxidants.

Better than that, these vegan/gluten friendly bites have a low glycemic index, whilst also providing an enviable source of ‘slow release’ energy.
More importantly, from a discerning snacker’s perspective, puffed lotus seeds provide the perfect stage for all manner of enticing flavours to shine.

Launched in May ‘18, Lotus Bites have got the ball rolling with 3 well-rounded flavours with far-reaching family appeal: Pineapple, Turmeric & Tomato and Beetroot.

According to Lotus Bite’s founder Jumana Kapadia, her brand provides the perfect stepping stone between traditional Indian cuisine and a more contemporary Western outlook

‘I believe Lotus Bites are the future of on-the-go snacking and time out treats. Initially, we’ve had a lot of interest from the subscription snack box companies that service the office drop opportunity (e.g. Nutribox) but we’ve got a truly diverse selection of upmarket distribution breaking over the coming weeks.’

Lotus Bites proactively champions the time-honoured notion that ‘you are what you eat’ but these days great taste and nutritional integrity needn’t be irreconcilable goals.
